Kayamone A. Sutton, Sr.


Kayamone was born on September 5th, 1986 and is a native of Flint, Michigan. He is a single father of 3 children and is a strong community and political activist. In 2010 Kayamone stepped onto the political scene in Flint as he ran for mayor.  He became the Director of Development and Communications for the  Flint Stop the Violence/Community take-Back Organization in 2013 with the purpose of protesting the youth on youth violence while promoting the positive aspects of the Flint community (i.e. community resources, youth groups, social services, etc.).  Kayamone spends much of his time advocating for positive and progressive change within the City of Flint and has taken a stand in the community on a number of key issues such as youth education, public safety, and budget management and debt reduction.  He is currently a candidate for 4th Ward Flint City Council.

Kayamone is a US Navy veteran, having served an enlistment on the U.S.S.  San Jacinto (CG-56), a guided missile cruiser based in Norfolk, Virginia as an Operations Specialist from 2006-2009.  Some of his awards include the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, and Naval Sea Service Deployment Award.  Kayamone has also been awarded with the 2012 keep Genesee County Beautiful Neighborhood Organization Award.

In 2010 and 2013 Kayamone served as Advisory Board member for the Genesee Regional Young Professionals. He currently serves as Executive Director for the Flint NJROTC Alumni Association, President and CEO of UASO, Inc., Program Director for the Apogee 2020 Youth Education Afterschool Program, and Admin & IT Specialist for Eagle’s Nest Academy.
